Always Bustling Around Brennan Vineyards!

Even though there is not much to do in the vineyards right now, we sure have been busy lately. We all drove down to 4.0 Cellars last week in Fredericksburg and started installing the show vineyard trellis for the vineyard we will plant next year. We were able to get most of the work done in one day. We will need to go back down there once more to finish up. Not sure yet what we will be planting.

In one of our vineyards (Newburg), we are having to strengthen our existing trellis in two blocks, our Tempranillo & Mourvedre. Both varietals have very heavy clusters, and this year we had very high yields. That much weight on our trellis caused several posts to break. So, we are adding more heavy duty iron pipe to replace some of our weaker posts.

We are getting in to some more wine competitions now, too. The Houston Rodeo Wine Competition was this past weekend, and we can’t wait to see the results! I am also working on our applications for the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and Dallas Morning News Wine Competition.

In the winery, we are a couple months away from bottling. But, there are lots of things to do. So, we have already started working on ordering bottles, corks, capsules, screw caps, labels & barrels. Even more importantly, we have been figuring out how much wine we are making so we can order all our supplies accordingly. Always something…
