• Ben Hogan, You Would Be So Honored…

…to know what the people in Dublin, Texas are doing to preserve your memory. In fact, did you know that Dublin now sports another museum and that  it is called the Ben Hogan Museum? That’s right, and so much about your life is being preserved right there on a corner that I think you would remember well from your young years in Dublin.

Today, I was fortunate enough to be in the museum to welcome a group of red hatters from Comanche, Texas when the ladies arrived at the museum. I wish you could have seen their attention when Karen Wright, executive director of the Dublin EDC, told them the story of the time you almost had to give up the game of golf.

Remember? You were already out of money when someone jacked up your car and stole your wheels.  Do you think the thief ever knew just how closely he came to completely altering history as well as the game of golf itself?

Well, thankfully, you won that $287.00 on that day, the $287.00 that set you on your way in the sport of golf as well as in the golfing industry.

Yes, Mr. Hogan, I think you would have had fun watching the ladies enjoy their afternoon in the museum that bears your name. And the movie? Well, it is just wonderful, but you know what? I had no idea that you are actually in some of those shots yourself, and we all had a good laugh when Karen told us that Glenn Ford’s swing was so bad that you did not want him depicting you!

I need to run now, but I do want to stress one more time just how much we are enjoying Dublin’s Ben Hogan Museum. Oh, and your banquet will be on August 11 this year. We’ll be sure to tell you all about it!
