Claborn Lee Fritts’ obituary appeared in the January 18, 1929 issue of The Oklahoman, and I’ll be the first to tell you that I have no idea how he spelled his name, the typical being Claiborne, with many variations. I have chosen the spelling on his tombstone, but, as you can see, the tombstone has yet another spelling.
“Clayborn Lee Fritts, 51 years old, died at his home in Bethany, Thursday morning. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Birdie Fritts, one son, Darel Fritts, four daughters, Mrs. Winnie Maddox of Bethany, Ethel Fritts and Mrs. Helen Brown of Oklahoma City, and Myrl Fritts of Muskogee.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Perrine chapel Friday morning at 11 o’clock.”
