Why We Have Deficits

A friend sent me an email that posed a couple of questions that I’ve been mulling over for a while now. They were actually raised by Charlie Reese in his column. What were these questions, you might ask?

1. If both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

2. If all politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

I can answer these questions in two words: job security. Oh, not job security for me or for you. No, I’m talking about political job security.

Politicians buy votes with promises that eventually require money. Politicians create programs that hand out just enough money to keep people hanging on…not because they really are getting enough to pull themselves out of poverty, but because they are afraid to let go.

Politicians also love to come back to their districts and show everything they have done for their peeps. Those things 100% of the time required them to spend money.

So….having said all of this, I have a proposal to make…I’d like My politicians to come back to My district and tell me how much money they have SAVED! I’d like My politicians to come back and tell me how much money the did NOT spend.

And finally, and I know many of you will disagree with me, I’d like My politicians to come back to My district and tell me what programs CAN be cut as we try to dig out from under this mess that was created 100% by My and Your POLITICIANS.

About Fredda Jones

Fredda Davis Jones was raised “in the country” in Comanche County and learned very early that creativity and innovation are traits that can flourish even in small-town Texas and that with enough effort, indeed nothing is impossible, including being married to the same man for over 40 years! The rest of her time is spent creating great content for texansunited.com and marketing small-town Texas.

Graft and Corruption are called Lobbyists and Special Interests Groups! It is a well known fact that in order to get in to speak with a Politician, you must grease his palm first, not with grease but money, payola, dead Presidents etc…. The sad part is our thinking that we elect these people. MONEY ELECTS THESE PEOPLE!

    • Fredda Jones Fredda Jones says:

Okay, Ralph, since I know you and any others who might want to jump into the conversation here are not ready to sit down and give up on the country, what is the answer? If I remember my government classes, at least on the Federal level, only Congress can vote to approve term limits. (We all let that one slip right by us, didn’t we?) And obviously, they ain’t voting for ‘em!

So, where do we start? Where do we sign up to help get the country back on track? I have an idea; it will take a lot of years, and most of you will think I am crazy, but I say we start right here at home.

As far as I can tell, local government is also out of control; we just don’t always notice it as much because there is not as much money with which to play. However, how many decisions were made right here in our home cities last year that may NOT have reflected the will of the people? I can give you quite a few.

It occurs to me that if we were to get our home cities in order, we could then run candidates for the next level of gov’t who “get it.” And, thus continue up the chain. As I said, this would be a slow process, but it is the only thing that I believe has a chance of working.

Have a different idea? Feel free to jump in and lay it on us! fj

Every level of government is out of control. I agree that only by starting at the local level and going up can we regain any type of control!

        • Frank says:

I agree, Betty, but do you really believe that Americans of 2011 are willing to put in the time that it will require to stay on top of even their local government? I don’t think so!

  2. Dennis Marken says:

Keep voting those Dem/Rep long term loving people in year after year. That way they can establish enough money and under the table deals we will never get them out. Hmmmm!!! Harry Reid comes to mind.

    • Fredda Jones Fredda Jones says:

I agree with you 100%, Dennis. Of course, I’m one of those crazy people who believes that we should do away with the party system entirely. However, having said that, I also know that unless the American people unite like they have not done, maybe ever, there is no chance of a no-party getting elected, and I don’t like throwing my vote away on the best candidate, but also the candidate who has no chance.

Don Rollins said it best: The people of this country need to hit their knees in an outpouring of prayer like we have never seen, prayer that God will send us the leaders that we so desperately need.

      • Dennis Marken says:

The problem here is Don Rollins got it wrong. God is not going to help us. We were dumb enough to put our self in this situation. So as I see it He sees us as having had the garden same as Adam and Eve and we still ate the apple, the donkey and elephant. Yes Fredda we opened our own doors to hell and until we stand-up and vote as a free people we will just have to live with what we created. I love Claire Wolfe’s statement: “America is at that awkward stage. It’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bas-ards. ” …. The ideal citizen of a tyrannical state is the man or women who bows in silent obedience in exchange for the status of a well cared-for herd of animals. Thinking people become the tyrant’s greatest enemies.

        • Fredda Jones Fredda Jones says:

Wow, Dennis! This may be where we have to agree to disagree. You are very right that bad choices come with consequences, but God helps anyone who is willing to repent and serve Him once again. The question to me is whether or not Americans are ready to do that yet.

Don, I hope you are out there to save me from this one!! :)

          • Dennis Marken says:

No Fredda, we are not in disagreement, just different perspectives. In my mind God only helps those who are willing to help themselves. That means those who are willing to take charge of the problem. Example: When one is obese and he/she prays to be slim but keeps eating and sitting, I really don’t think the Good Lord will help. Same with our problem and the government. When people jump-up and down complaining about the government but stay at home watching their TV/computer and do not check out the people running. Guess what? I don’t think God will help. Less than 10% of americans vote yet 99% complain. Look at our own mayor’s race. Hey Comanche, where were you. In fact, only 10 people showed up when the new mayor took office but over 300 voted. Need I say more. If americans really dislike what is going on let them take action and not bellyache like children. Would you like to make a bet? My bet; 85 % of americans will not vote in 2012 and of the 15% that do vote 99% will have no idea who the people are thats running and will just vote Dem/Rep. Americans, are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience they are confronted with, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. Bet or no bet???

  3. We the people need to just listen to God’s word and pray!

Zec 8:8 And they shall be My people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.

Heb 8:10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My Laws into their mind and write them in their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

We are all one people in Christ!

Zec 2:11 And many nations shall be joined to Jehovah in that day, and shall be My people; and I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know that Jehovah of Hosts has sent me to you.

It may sound as foolishness to some but that doesn’t suprise me either!

1Co 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

I pray that all will ask God to heal our land and send us leaders that prayerfully consider God’s will in all that we do as a nation.
