The Dublin Lions Club’s popular 10-2-4k Dr Pepper run on June 9 is expected to draw entries from throughout the state in each of the age and distance categories. The event coincides with the 121st birthday of Dublin Bottling Works, which will host various events throughout the day at the bottling facility in downtown Dublin.
In its 11th year, the 10-2-4k run is sponsored this year by Dr Pepper Snapple which is also providing Dr Pepper products and trophies to the winners.
Because of high temperatures in previous races, the starting time has been moved to 7 a.m. for the 4k and 10k, followed at about 9 a.m. for the 2k or when the 4k and 10k conclude.
Early registration for the 4k and 10k ends on May 31 with an entry fee of $25 plus a signup fee of $2.50. Late registration increases by $5 for the run fee and 50 cents for registration. Entries will be accepted until the race begins.
Early registration for the 2k is $15 with a $2.50 signup fee. Late registration increases by $5 for the run.
In the 10k, top male and female overall winners receive a trophy plus $100, second place wins $50 plus a trophy; third place win $30 plus trophy and all winners receive beverages from Dr Pepper Snapple.
There will be a masters division for ages 50 and over in the 10k only. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female winners in the amounts of $100, $50 and $30, respectively.
Cash prices will also be awarded in the 4k for top three male and female in the amounts of $50, $25 and $15, respectively.
Age groups are under 16, 16-20, 21-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40, 41-45, 46-50, 51-55, 56-60, 61-65, 66-70, 71 and older.
All proceeds benefit the Dublin Lions Club whose projects include a scholarship, eyeglasses for students, and sponsorship of Lions International vision projects including the eye bank and leader dogs. The Lions are involved in a wide variety of community projects.
The run will coincide with several other events that day including the Tour de Pepper bicycle race, the Dublin Area Reunion at Dublin High School, the AlleyFest arts and crafts show in Hogan’s Alley near the bottling plant, and the birthday celebration at Dublin Bottling Works which will include Jon Woodworth’s huge sand sculpture, an art show by Texas artist George Boutwell, museum tours and the cutting of the huge Dublin Bottling Works cake, which will highlight the plant’s seven new flavors and Triple XXX Root Beer.
