When the Dublin Rodeo became the Pre-Madison Square Garden Championship Rodeo in 1946, it gained national and international recognition as the premier western show of all time. By being the headquarters for this rodeo extravaganza, Dublin shares in this western legacy by being part of the foundation of the sport of rodeo as we know it today.
Now, we have the opportunity to recognize that legacy and tell the story of the rodeo to future generations by erecting a historical marker on the highway near where the famed Colborn Bowl once stood. The Texas Historical Commission has approved the application which was sponsored by the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum who is now in the process of raising the $1,000 fee for the plaque to be cast.
To be a part of that history and to ensure that this marker can be erected, please donate to the marker fund. The museum has to submit payment by September, so act now to make sure the Dublin Rodeo receives this prestigious honor. Donations of $50 or more will be acknowledged in the program at the marker dedication.
Drop by the museum, or send a check to Box 313, Dublin, and note on the check that the donation is for the marker fund.
Thank you for your support, and make plans to attend the marker dedication when it is announced later this year. -Cathey Hartmann, Chairman Erath County Historical Commission, Cat3542@yahoo.com
