• Dublin, Texas Trash-Off

The following comes to you from Tom Gordon of Dublin, Texas.

On April 14, 2012, the Dublin Lions Club, Dublin Rotary Club, and Keep Dublin Beautiful met at the corner lot at 8:00 a.m. to get their orange vests and Texas Trash-Off bags. Each group was assigned a section of highway to clean up.

The Lions Club picked up trash starting at the city limit sign on a two mile section of Hwy 377 South of Dublin. The group picked up 12 sacks full of trash while walking through knee high grass.

The Dublin Rotary Club, along with the Keep Dublin Beautiful group picked up trash along a two mile section along Hwy 377 North of Dublin. This group picked up 11 sacks of litter while walking through more knee high grass and the bluebonnets.

After everyone had finished their Saturday morning walk, they were treated to hot dogs and soft drinks at the Grist Mill Pavilion at Wright Park, compliments of Keep Dublin Beautiful. These three groups have been doing this for 9 years, and I think they all deserve a great big THANK YOU.

For those of your who would like to become involved with one of these groups, all you need to do is show up at a meeting or call a member of one of the groups.

Also, while the highways were being cleaned up, the citizens of Dublin were busy cleaning up around their homes taking trash to the city maintenance yard for free dumping. This was quite a success as by noon, the citizens had filled four extra large roll-off dumpsters.

This was a great day for cleaning up Dublin! A big THANK YOU also goes out to our city employees who were at the maintenance facility assisting with this clean-up.
