• Erath Co. Genealogical Society To Meet

This just in from Janella Hendon, President ECGS

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Clay Room of the Dublin Public Library!!

We are so excited about the following program that our Vice-President, Harrell Gilbreath, has arranged and the following announcement is being distributed.

Erath County Clerk, Gwinda Jones, will speak to the Erath County Genealogical Society (ECGS) at p.m. on Saturday, April 26 at the Dublin Public Library. ECGS is honored to have Ms. Jones discuss resources available for your genealogical and historical research at the courthouse.

A county clerk administers elections, serves county and commissioners court, allocates budget, handles fees, and much more. But what genealogists like best about county clerks is that they are custodians of public records, such as deeds, birth and death certificates, marriage licenses and other instruments. Guests are welcome. Please join us.

Our Editor, Sheryl, will be ready to pass out the April Edition of the Journal that day. As always, she keeps trying to improve it and it gets better and better! It will be mailed out to paid memberships sometime the following week. Rex Carey

has done an outstanding job on covering the community of Selden this time; we are continuing our stories on outstanding pioneer women; and of course, the first of the year, always contains the listing of names that are being researched.

We have two workshops scheduled for the 3rd Sat. in May and the 3rd Sat in June. The first one will be on getting started and the second one will be on how to glean the most information from the census. Although, these are designed

for beginners – some of our more experienced ones may wish to attend to share their knowledge and to brush up on new ideas.

A short business meeting is planned this time – be thinking of anything we should discuss.

A couple of field trips are planned for later in the year – but we have not set the dates as yet.

We are making progress on getting some of our materials on the web-sites – and hope to get the Community Project ready to publish in some form this year.

This looks like a really fun and productive year.!

Rickey and Fredda have 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and a crazy life that includes sitting in the bleachers several times a week. The rest of her time is spent creating great content for texansunited.com and marketing small-town Texas.
