Famous “Buts” In History Will Make You Laugh Or Throw Something!

This advertisement for the Texas Telephone Company appeared in newspapers across the state before the days of Political Correctness! Can you just imagine anyone getting away with calling any of us “Maiden Ladies” as if it was a plague? LOL

The copy right date on the ad is actually 1934, and it ran in papers across Texas in 1936. We are very fortunate to live in the 21st Century, ladies!!

Be sure to read the “fine print” at the bottom of the ad. Do I detect the threat of spinsterhood for those young women without a phone? :)

About Fredda Jones

Fredda Davis Jones was raised “in the country” in Comanche County and learned very early that creativity and innovation are traits that can flourish even in small-town Texas and that with enough effort, indeed nothing is impossible, including being married to the same man for over 40 years! Rickey and Fredda have 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and a crazy life that includes sitting in the bleachers several times a week. The rest of her time is spent creating great content for texansunited.com and marketing small-town Texas.
