Last week, a very good friend of mine told me that my Blog came off sounding like I was a right winger. Now, I had to stop and think about that for awhile because I actually don’t consider myself to be rightwing, leftwing, or any other wing.
I am, however, an American, a flag waving, military supporting, pledge saying American who realizes that it was only by the grace of God that I was born into this wonderful country of ours. I am also a frightened American because for the first time in my lifetime, I can feel the tremor of the strongest country in the world as it totters.
We Americans spent the post World War II years playing; we’ve all done it. We play baseball; we play football; we play basketball. We go to the movies; we go to the theatre; we go out to eat. It’s true…our need to be entertained grows every year. And while we were playing, the world whirled; the government grew, and we didn’t even know it.
And now we find ourselves in the year 2011, and this government to which we gave our blind trust spent months talking about defaulting on the ridiculous amount of debt it incurred while we were not looking. Of course, it didn’t default, but just the talk alone can be enough to shake the market, shake it enough to wipe out the retirement funds of many who don’t even realize what is happening…and who won’t realize until it is too late.
With all of that said, I just want the people whom we elect to go to Washington, suck it up, and for once put the country ahead of their party and their politics. Maybe I’m missing something here, but it just doesn’t seem to me that it should be so difficult for people to do their jobs…nothing more…just the jobs they are elected to do. Does that seem lik too much to ask?
Have a great weekend, and May God bless America.
