Hico, Texas: “Billy” By James Rice

Hico, Texas understands the importance of embracing its western heritage, and its citizens are quick to share with the rest of the world their belief that the man known as Brushy Bill Roberts was in actuality infamous outlaw Billy the Kid.

Just for the record, here at Texans United we have a strong suspicion that this just might be the truth of the matter. The book Billy The Kid Killed in New Mexico—Died In Texas is a good read for a little insight into the matter. Of course, it is only a starting point if you are really interested in old Billy…or was it Brushy?

When you visit Hico, be sure to take time to visit this statue erected in the honor of the man who lived out his  last days in Hico while trying to gain a pardon from the Governor of New Mexico.
