• Historic Hico Hosts TMCN Inside Blue Star Trading

Once again I was fortunate enough to be invited by the Dublin Economic Development Corporation and the Dublin Chamber of Commerce to attend yet another Texas Midwest Community Network (TMCN) luncheon. This time the luncheon/meeting was held in historic downtown Hico, Texas inside the gorgeous Blue Star Trading building.

Now, before I go any farther, I have to tell you that if you haven’t visited Blue Star Trading, you are definitely missing out on great shopping and a lot of fun history! As I’ve said many times on this website, Hico has it going on, and it definitely understands the need to market itself.

Represented at today’s TMCN meeting were De Leon, Dublin, Gorman, Hamilton, and Hico, and the topics covered the spectrum on the need to promote, promote, and promote our small Texas towns. In her article last week, Karen Wright, executive director of the Dublin EDC, discussed the topics for the day. However, what she did not tell you is that after the meeting was adjourned, we did some Hico shopping!

Of course, our first stop was in our host’s building where I found the cutest pair of shoes; in fact, I saw a second pair that were almost flat that I just might have to have!

Obviously, Blue Star Trading is much, much more than shoes.  I suppose the best way that I can describe it to you is for you to envision a mercantile store, some of this and some of that.

The photos below will give you a better idea of just what types of items can be found inside Blue Star Trading in Hico.

Now, I must confess that we checked out the rest of the shopping in Hico as well. I’ll tell you all about that in my next article on Hico!

    About Fredda Jones

Fredda Davis Jones was raised “in the country” in Comanche County and learned very early that creativity and innovation are traits that can flourish even in small-town Texas and that with enough effort, indeed nothing is impossible, including being married to the same man for over 40 years! Rickey and Fredda have 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and a crazy life that includes sitting in the bleachers several times a week. The rest of her time is spent creating great content for texansunited.com and marketing small-town Texas.
