What Is Inflammation Anyway?
Obviously, I do not hand out medical advice here on texansunited.com, but I do like to share with you the things that I learn from my own doctors and nutritionists as well as from those whose writings I follow. Because so many times our health self-destructs simply because of the choices we make in our day to day lives, it seems to me that it is more important than ever to take charge of our own destiny, or at least as much as that is possible…and fighting the monster that we now know as inflammation is completely possible.
We’ve all known the word inflammation all of our lives, and that inflammation is a good thing. We get a cut or scrape, and inflammation comes running, bringing with it an army of white blood cells to fight against the harmful bacteria that would otherwise invade the wound. Once we are healed, the inflammation recedes and we find ourselves back to normal, right?
Unfortunately, the inflammation of our study today is not something that we can see with the eye, and that is NOT a good thing because if we can’t see it, we don’t believe it is there, do we? AND….preventative “medicine” just isn’t always a popular thought…just ask my husband! I will say, however, that even Rickey has come to understand the danger of inflammation, and he religiously takes proper supplements and very irreverently allows me to change his diet sometimes.
So what causes this awful inflammation and what’s the big deal?
Diet, Diet, Diet…too much processed foods, too many bad fats, and not enough good fats (olive oil, coconut oil, avocadoes…). AND….you’re going to hate this, I know…not enough green in most of our diets. Okay, so what does inflammation cause in the body?
According to Leigh Erin Connealy, M.D., if it ends in “itis” it is probably caused by inflammation: arthritis, gastritis, prostatitis. Connealy then takes it a step farther, claiming that inflammation also causes much more dread diseases,”including cancer, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, heart disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, and more.” Ask any cutting edge doctor or nutritionist and you will learn that 100% of the cancer patients in the world have acidic systems. The trick is to turn our systems alkaline BEFORE we are sick, and it CAN be done!
