Every now and then…well, pretty much every day…something exciting happens here at Texansunited.com. Today is no exception, and today’s news is REALLY exciting because Shelby Hilliard is going to be unveiling some of her writings right here on United! So just who is Shelby Hilliard?
Shelby graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. Degree in Exercise Sports Science from Texas Tech University in 2012, and today she is enrolled in two graduate programs at Tech.
1. Mass Communications (Sports Media Track)
2. Exercise Sports Science (Sports Psychology Track)
Shelby plans to graduate with both her M.A. and M.S. in May of 2014.
“My current thesis for my Exercise Sport Science degree is a combination of both of my education focuses. It looks at the effect of media on self-efficacy in exercise adherence. I plan to work in sports journalism upon graduation, and I also will be able to work with both exercisers and athletes as a mental consultant.”

“Our flag football team has gone to Nationals each of the past 2 years and we just won the championship here at Texas Tech last week to qualify once again for a run at Nationals (sponsors pending since the tournament is being held in Florida this year), I also play basketball intramurals, volleyball, even what is known as battleship where teams are in canoes trying to sink each other’s boats by throwing water into them with buckets. Sounds crazy I know, but any form of competition and I am there.
I also enjoy being crafty in my free time as well. Being a college student means living on a budget and that has resulted in refinishing much of my furniture. I have also started making most of my Christmas gifts including things from unique picture frames to decorated cow heads.”
Shelby’s list of accomplishments, her travels, and her studies are too lengthy to list here, but she did leave me with her bucket list of her life’s to do plans.
1. BE ON CBS’s SURVIVOR!
a. Might not be the normal number one on a persons bucket list but I apply every single year and will continue to do so until either I am picked or the show ends.
2. Go to every major sporting events Championship game.
a. So far I have only been to the World Series.
3. Visit every major league baseball stadium.
4. Travel through Africa.
Next week we’ll see if Shelby writes as well as she does everything else.
