Well, maybe not literally, but if you run a blog and you have to post a lot of content, I’m betting that there are days when you feel as if you just can’t crank out one more article, right? I don’t know that there is actually a perfect way to completely solve the problem, but I have found several things that do help.
1. Shut down, shut off – This is especially important if you also do your own social media marketing because you will find that you can’t get anything written for sending out tweets, making Facebook posts, pinning, and answering emails and text messages. It sounds overly simple, but it is amazing how much faster you can churn out an article if you simply turn off everything electronic in your life until you are finished…and yes this means even the television!
2. Worth 1,000 Words – Have a really great photo? Use it with only a short blurb. You might just find that your reading audience loves the change, and you have a great post in 1/100 the time!
3. Become a night owl – Luckily this is very easy for me, and it is amazing how much I can get done while the rest of the world is asleep. Working at night…and I mean in the wees…insures that my phone will not ring. There will be very few on Twitter so I do not have to feel torn between the need to send out tweets and creating new content, and there is also no Facebook temptation because most of my friends are asleep. Working at night also means that I don’t have to face the day quite so early, not a bad trade-off.
The bottom line is that keeping a blog that must stay current is extremely stressful, and the burnout rate is high. However, it really is possible to continue to enjoy doing just that…if you make the changes that will make your life easier and then make yourself stay with them. Good luck!
