• January 26 In History…What Happened?

    Today is January 26. We don’t know what will happen today, but we do know what happened in the past!

    1838: Tennessee lawmakers made it illegal to sell alcoholic beverages in taverns and stores. This was the first prohibition law passed in theU.S.

    1863: General Burnside was dismissed from his command of the Union Army on the 25th.  General Joseph Hooker took over on the 26th.

    1934: Samuel Goldwyn bought the film rights to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

    1962: The first and only song to make it to Billboard’s “Hot 100″ in two separate releases ended its second run. What was it? “The Twist”
