John Amzy Kerley Obit 1952

John Amzy Kerley was born on September 24, 1883, in Purves (Erath County) to Claiborne Washington Kerley and Martha Marcella Peacock Kerley. Some believe Martha’s middle name to be Inez.  He died November 3, 1952, in Stafford County, Virginia.

Michael Kerley recently found this obit, and he also cleared up a few questions that we had about just how and where Amzy died.

It seems that when Amzy became ill, his son, Cecil, and his wife, Dorothy Johnson Kerley, took him in; however, I suppose that became too hard (Amzy was a stroke patient) when Dorothy found herself expecting their first child, and Dorothy’s parents, Theodore and Florence Johnson, assumed care of the man, which has to say something about the character of these two.

The Johnsons lived in Stafford County, Virginia.

About Fredda Jones

Fredda Davis Jones was raised “in the country” in Comanche County and learned very early that creativity and innovation are traits that can flourish even in small-town Texas and that with enough effort, indeed nothing is impossible, including being married to the same man for over 40 years! Rickey and Fredda have 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and a crazy life that includes sitting in the bleachers several times a week. The rest of her time is spent creating great content for and marketing small-town Texas.
