Lake Eanes Swiming Hole In Comanche County

Connie Proffitt Penny was older than I was when we were growing up, and I thought she was one of the nicest people I knew. Then, of course, we lost touch for years. Through the wonder of social media, Connie found me a few years ago, and we had a great time catching up on lost years. When she realized how much I enjoy days of the past, she sent me some great photos. Below is one of those.

“Fredda, this a photo of the Old Swimming Hole (natural pool) at Lake Eanes from the mid-1940’s, taken by my dad, of Jimmy Carpenter, as a teenager diving.

“This photo has been in our family things longer than I can remember, and I thought you’d like to see it. Jimmy’s parents were a couple of my favorites: John & Kate Carpenter. Jimmy and Charlene were friends of my parents; Gale was in the Blue Bird Group when I served as their entertainment co-ordinator when I was sixteen.” -Connie Proffitt Penny

Of course, Connie’s dad was Adolf Proffitt, the beloved local photographer for Comanche, Texas.

About Fredda Jones

Fredda Davis Jones was raised “in the country” in Comanche County and learned very early that creativity and innovation are traits that can flourish even in small-town Texas and that with enough effort, indeed nothing is impossible, including being married to the same man for over 40 years! Rickey and Fredda have 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and a crazy life that includes sitting in the bleachers several times a week. The rest of her time is spent creating great content for texansunited.com and marketing small-town Texas.
