Love, Peace, & Bacon Grease Joins United!

SONYAWhether you know her as Sonya, Mouth of the South, or Texas Music Chat, there’s no doubt about it. Once you’ve met her, you aren’t likely to forget her…ever. It’s just the way it is with the newest member of the team, Sonya Shodown, whose “Love, Peace, and Bacon Grease” made her an immediate sensation in our part of the world, when she first hit the radio airwaves under the guise of Mouth From the South.

“Texas Music is what brought me to Texas, and Texas people are what will cause me to retire in Texas,” the dynamic southerner from Tennessee drawled before bursting into the bubbling laugh that I’ve come to expect after almost every sentence. “Everyone in my family could sing except for me. I couldn’t carry a tune in a paper bag, but because of my love for music, I did the next best thing. I ran my mouth for music.”

And now, she’s running it for AND Texas Music, just this week launching Texas Music Chat, a place where the artist and the fans unite.

So who is this openly southern gal who happily runs her mouth for all things Texas?

Sonya was born in Kentucky but grew up in Tennessee, the daughter of a southern preacher. She is the mother of three grown children, Shai and twins, Kelbi and Kelsi. She is also the grandmother of three, Brenlee, Peighton, and Aldon, and she is a firm believer in the concept of giving back.

“Because of generous people in my life that have made my dreams come true, I volunteer my time helping others.”

Sonya currently volunteers for the Miss America Organization (Memphis Branch) as the appearance coordinator. She also works with Back Pack Buddies, an organization that helps feed hungry children. In addition, she does free photography to help raise money for disaster relief programs.

Best known as the Mouth From the South, Sonya has worked in all forms of media for the past 20 years, 6 of which she spent as the co-host and appraiser for the Treasurer Hunters Roadshow on the Live Well Network. She has also worked in radio in Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta, Daytona, and Texas.

Obviously, here at United we are beyond excited to now have her on our team so watch out!  A little “Love Peace & Bacon Grease” just might be headed your way!!
