• Prom Closet, A Comanche Community Effort

Citizens of Comanche, Texas have begun a true community service project that has been needed in this county for years, and they need our help! According to Susan Riley, members of the First United Methodist Church here in Comanche have created what they are calling the Prom Closet, designed to make annual proms across Comanche County more affordable for all.

The committee is currently asking for donations of prom or bridesmaid dresses as well as accessories.

“We are starting a new project to help the young ladies of our county with Prom Dresses and everyone is welcome. If the young lady is able to make a small donation for the dress of her choice, that would help to purchase more dresses; however, a donation is not required to receive a dress.”

Susan’s group requests that dresses be no more than five years old and that they fit current style. These dresses will be available to girls

“There are lots of dresses hanging in closets that could be utilized by the young ladies of our county and we want to provide a place where they can come and shop for their prom dresses before having to go out of town to find one.”

If you have dresses that you would like to donate, you can take them to the FUMC office during regular business hours or contact Susan Riley at 325-642-2309. The Prom Closet will be accepting dresses through the end of February and then will begin scheduling times for young ladies to come and look at what is available.

Here at Texansunited.com we salute Susan and the rest of her group. The expense that comes with attending a prom has simply gotten out of control over the past twenty years, pricing our many students who would love to attend. Good job!
