It starts with an idea, a passion, and a determination to dig deep enough to achieve a greatness that most say can’t be done…isn’t possible…isn’t feasible…isn’t affordable…because we’ve never done it like that before.
And so it is, and under much these exact circumstances, that the town of Comanche, Texas is looking at two very new, large projects, one of which is a beautiful new landscape for the courthouse square. So just how does a new courthouse landscape come to be?
It starts with an idea, a dream, and a scheme or three, but most of all, it begins with a desire to create something of greatness. It also begins with people who are not ashamed to beg for money and with those who are willing to write a check or two.
It also begins with those who are willing to roll up their sleeves and give some elbow grease to their community for no other reason that to make that community a better place to be. The group that simply calls itself Revitalize Comanche is made up of just this kind of people and with your help it does indeed plan to make a beautiful courthouse square become a reality!
Then there is the second project. Spearheaded by Rick Howard, plans are in the works to organize the very best Veterans Day celebration to be found in all of Central Texas.
And as you can see by my photos, there is nothing great, nothing sophisticated, nothing brilliant about the meetings from which the ideas for Veterans Day come. Those plans simply come by sitting down together and bouncing around ideas until some with the right glue begins to stick…just people who love their community and their veterans…just people who are willing to work to see a dream become a reality.
Several of you have told us that the death of Russell Reynolds has inspired you to give more to your community and yet, I remember well when Russell Reynolds proposed the first fireworks show, and I remember when the city council refused his request. But Russell had a dream, a dream of honoring all veterans, and obviously, he did not give up.
That show eventually became a reality and went on to become one of the top 10 in the state of Texas simply because there was a desire and because the Comanche Kiwanis Club refused to listen to the naysayers who claimed that it couldn’t be done.
Here at texansunited.com, we salute all of you who are willing to volunteer you time, your money, your brain, and your brawn. We KNOW you are going to get it done!!
