• Stew Cook-Off

    Cooks converse.

    St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin, Texas dawned cool and damp—–great stew weather.

    With the cook-off scheduled for the Corner Lot’s gazebo, contestants were ready and immediately following the parade, customers stepped right up to sample the entries.

    With Highland Avenue Congregational Church, Dublin National Bank, The Dublin Citizen, Castleview Nursing Home, Greens Creek Methodist Church, and Brady Pendleton, attorney at law and Dublin newcomer as the field of cooks, the fare was excellent and reaching a decision on winners was difficult.

    After the votes were counted, the Highland Avenue ladies took 1st prize of $100 Dublin Dollars.

    Greens Creek Methodist, Castleview and Pendleton were locked in a 3-way tie for 2nd place; all agreed it was fair to combine the allotted Dublin Dollars for 2nd and 3rd places and distribute equally among those tied.

    The best thing about the event——most of those consuming the stew were out-of-towners who were given a generous Dublin welcome by all those participating in the cook-off and

    the wonderful spirit of comradeship enjoyed throughout the contest by the cooks.

    And wasn’t that the point?

    For people to come together, enjoy good food, good company, a great day of celebration and go home having had a good time while looking ahead to next year!
