Anne Murray said it first, but just this week I heard someone say that we really needed to hear some good new, something positive for a change, and I thought, “My goodness! Just look around you. This wonderful country (that by the Grace of God we were born in) is just brimming with beautiful, wonderful, positive things.”
Of course, we have our problems, but so did Noah, Abraham, Lot, Joseph, and Moses. Now, those guys had some problems, the likes of which none of us can even imagine here in America…the following became a closing song for many of my students’ performances post 9-11, and I still love it!
It starts with the little ones, and what a beautiful way to teach our children and our grandchildren about the Pledge of Allegiance. None of us need a teacher to do it for us since we are perfectly capable of training our own children to be Godly, patriotic, decent, hard-working, Americans.
Of course, there have been times when we weren’t sure we would survive, times when we quite honestly should not have survived…and yet, by the Grace of God, survive we did…even in World War II, when we were more ill prepared than most Americans ever knew.
And we owe it all to every veteran who has ever stood, peace time or war, it makes no difference. What matters is that they stood…between the rest of us and those who would do us harm. It didn’t come free and it didn’t come cheap and for some families, the price was way, way too high.
And yet the good news, the positive news that we take away from it all is that ours is and always has been a country filled with the heroes determined to protect her shores and her citizens. May God Bless Them All, and May God Bless America!
