Well, fellow Texans, it would appear that the finances of the state of Texas are securely in the black as I type today. According to Dale Craymer who heads up the Texas Taxpayers and Research Association and who spoke with Kate Alexander of the Austin American-Statesman, “It would not surprise me if lawmakers were told: ‘We now have a record surplus.’ ”
Craymer went on to say that he expected Texas State Comptroller Susan Combs to project a historic surplus by early 2013.
Of course, there has been much ado around the state as to what it took to reach this point. The Texas Legislature took a very sharp knife to many programs, not the least of which was education, when it set about balancing the 2012-2013 budget, and this January, Legislators will be back at the drawing board as they begin preparations on the 2014-2015 state budget.
Here at United we wait just as eagerly as you to see who will make the cut this time.
