When Patty Hirst sent me her early morning photos of the Dublin, Texas Corner Lot, I think I actually gasped aloud at the sheer beauty and bounty of the blooms adorning the lovely corner or the Corner Lot as it is known in Dublin.
In case you are not familiar with the Corner Lot, it is an unbelievable story of of a group of friends who loved their town, saw a need, and invested their own personal money in creating an object of beauty for no other reason that to better the town of Dublin.
Yes, sixteen years ago several people from Dublin (who want to be known only as The Corner Lot Gang) went together, bought the lot, and transformed it into the beauty that you see today. Great, great job, Gang!
The combination of warm sun and abundant rain has certainly worked its magic on Dublin’s Corner Lot this spring.
Entering its birthday month of April, this special place in downtown Dublin will celebrate Sweet Sixteen around the middle of the month. For those of us who remember when this “baby” was born and have watched it grow, we find it hard to believe this much time has passed, but the maturity of the trees, vines, roses, and flowerbeds are all drawing attention to themselves with their bounty this season.
With the wonderful rains that have fallen in recent months, Dublin’s Corner Lot is sporting Mother Nature’s rewards in its blossoms. The vines are laden with flowers; one arbor’s covering is blooming for the first time any of the original “gang” can remember.
The generous rain is getting full credit for those new lovely yellow bells that resemble the old trumpet vine blooms. It is wonderful to see this climber in its inaugural season of flowering.
Roses, blue bonnets, and iris have all been on display as the cannas thrive and along with the crepe myrtles await their season of splendor.
