• Welding Class Preparing Like CRAZY For Competition

It was way too crazy for me to stay very long when I last visited to the CHS Ag shop, and I do mean WAY too crazy! Why? Because Ag teacher, Phillip Beard, and his welding class are preparing for their first contest, which will be held in Houston…sometime in the future. I’m not really sure about the date because everyone was too busy to stop and answer my question when I asked it.

It actually all started very calmly. Weston Conine and I stood quietly visiting about the truck that his class is repairing, while I waited for the welding class to come into the room. Even after the bell rang and I heard Mr. Beard tell his welding class to open their computers and get their plans, I still had no idea that the pace was going to change.

pulled his plan up first as I looked over his shoulder.

Bryan Shelton pulled his plan up first as I looked over his shoulder, trying to appear as if I understood something about it!

had his diagram up next, and then I was forced to jump out of the way as everyone (including Mr. B) a mad dash from the classroom into the shop!

Never kid yourself; this is one teacher who works right alongside his students, pushing them no harder than he pushes himself.

So…I grabbed some photos to show you that they really are working hard out there, and I hightailed it out of the way before something fell on me…or was thrown at me!  :)

You’ll have to cut me some slack on my explanations of the photos below because I truly had no time to get anything but the briefest of explanations.

Sarah Luce and John Whiteside are working on a tool cage. I'm not exactly sure what that is, but I would assume it is going to be something that will hold tools!

I didn't get a lot out of these guys, probably because this thing (which I understand is going to be a hoof trimming chute) was so heavy!

Believe it or not, Clayton Martin built this welding trailer!

And (as the old show used to say) that’s the way it was!
