I love it when what I call the medical world catches up with what I call the natural world! I’ve been using organic ground flaxseed (eating the unground seeds does not guarantee absorption) for years, and today even the medical world has seen the benefits of this food.
So why did I start using it? Initially, strictly for the omega-3 that it provides…before I really knew why I needed omega-3 in my diet.
Today, I use ground flaxseed for all kinds of reasons, and I will warn you before we start that it does matter where you get this super nutrient. Just because the box of crackers screams that it contains flaxseed does not mean that you should eat the box…or even a sleeve in the box!
Believe it or not, King Charlemagne understood the health benefits of flaxseed all the way back in the 8th century. In fact, Charlemagne actually passed laws requiring his people to eat flaxseed.
Today we know that what some call the most powerful plant food to ever exist reduces heart disease and stroke, and some reasearch indicates that the seed may even reduce your risk of certain cancers (breast, prostate, colon). It also helps remove inflamation from the body and can also help you move from the cancer-thriving acidic system to a much healthier alkaline system.
There are also some whispers that children with ADD and ADHD are low in the omega-3s.
Two tablespoons of ground flaxseed contains only 70 calories and 4 carbs while providing the following daily percentages:
And to this list a whopping 180% of your omega-3 (ALA) daily needs. If you are juicing your green veggies, adding a tablespoon of ground flaxseed will give your drink a much smoother, nuttier taste. If you are not, it can be added to almost any food and stirs well into Bulgarian yogurt.
As always, I only share with you the things that work in my own life. I give the things I put into my body total credit for keeping my pressure, sugar, cholesterol, and other levels looking great.
