As we head in to April, most of the work has now shifted to the vineyard. We just started our final pruning of the vines. We would have liked to wait a few more weeks, but were forced to start now since there has been so much growth on the vines.
We will still have to keep an eye on the weather for a few more weeks since we still have the possibility of a spring freeze. Knock on wood though. I saw my first Green June Beetle yesterday at home, not in the vineyard. It is very early in the year to see them. Normally the are coming out around harvest time and they can do some serious damage in the vineyard.
This might be good that they are out early this year or it might just be the first wave of them. I am not sure so I sent our local Texas Vineyard Extension Agent an email this morning about it. I have not heard back yet.
On a separate note we have delayed the opening of 4.0 Cellars for a few days. The new opening day will be Monday April 16th. We just shipped down a whole bunch of wine this morning toFredericksburg.
Here in Comanche we are getting very close to releasing some new vintages of some of our wines. We are on the last few cases of the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2010 Comanche Rose. Once we run out of those will be start pouring the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon which has already won a GOLD MEDAL at SF Chronicle Wine Competition and the 2011 Comanche Rose.
