    The decade of the 1860s was a decade like no other on the Texas frontier. With the Civil War raging, those men who were left on the frontier were hard pressed to protect their families from the Indians who took the war as their chance to win back "their" land. The years after the war were just as difficult as Texans tried to put their lives back together.

    By the 1870s the frontier of Texas crawled with outlaws, many of whom were spawned by the Civil War and Reconstruction. Central Texas seemed to have more than its share of hard times.

Some towns finally had the rail road, and while there was still plenty of action here in Central Texas, it seemed that the outlaws had at least been forced to take cover.     The turn of the twentieth century brought much progress with it. Although it would be years before the people of Central Texas gave up their wagons, the automobile did make a few appearances. Cotton was once again King, well,at least until the Boll Weavel stopped that.

    The decade of the 1920s was a very interesting decade to say the least. While many of our smaller Texas towns could boast of much progress, life was still very primitive by today's standards. The decade seems to be a decade a contrasts, from the airplane to the farm wagon by which so many still traveled.
